RITUALS

The rituals of the I.P.H.C are baptism. They claim that you are complete member of the church after being baptimized they also a time where they heal people who are sick, mentally handicapped and those who are cursed. There is also a time where they forgive people who make mistakes or those who trespass with the church regulations. During those rituals no children of whatever age is allowed to enter the room or where ever these rituals take place. When they baptize you it means that you are no longer restricted to wear the certain church uniform. They call it the “holly” and you are strictly not allowed to join these rituals when you know that you are not clean. Being clean means that you don’t commit things that are against the church e.g. witch. No children can be allowed to be baptimized. They perform this ritual in the deep river far from the homes. This ritual is performed in meadow Lance River. Usually they do it early in the morning. When they heal people who are sick, the priest wears a big grey clothing [seaparo] with red strips on it, unfortunately they don’t allow any child during these rituals claiming that it is so strong. Almost every month they perform certain rituals depend on the dates. Adults who are complete members, those who have been baptized have to attend these rituals. They also claim that there will be no one under the age of 30 who will be baptimized unless you are married, but there are certain rules that you have to follow. There is also a time where they teach and remind members about the rules of the church as a member. Again, only adults who have to attend because they are matured. They are not allowed to share the information with the outsiders or with the children, it remain confidential.

I.P.H.C HISTORY

The international Pentecostal holiness church was established by the late rev F.S MODISE in October 1962. He was the first person to form the church. Before he formed IPHC he was A MEMBER of Z.C.C CHURCH. It was revealed that he got sick for a long Z.C.C but he formed his own church in meadow lance. Few days after the church started people were scared to go there thinking that the church is a Satanist. It was said that there was a big dam in meadow lance that was full of witchcraft, all people of Soweto was scared of that dam because there was a rumour that it kills people and there a people who stay inside the dam that eat other people, it was said that if you stand closer the dam, it was going to swallow you, even the traditional healers and sangomas were scared of that .Rev F.S MODISE made a miracle that no one is going to forget and this made people to believe that he was a son of god. It was said that he invited the people of Soweto to the dam, he wanted them to see if he get in to the Dam and show them nothing is going to happen to him, we went inside the dam and he went deep little bit to show them that he was not scared, people didn’t believe what they saw with their eyes. He started to pray inside the dam, as he was praying the big snake came out of the dam and wanted to swallow him, it came face to face with him threatening to swallow him but he keeps on praying, some of people that was in the dam ran away thinking that the snake is going to turn to them, he keeps on praying and different things of witchcraft were happening but he keeps on praying until the water comes down and the snake died, after praying there was no more water in the dam and people stared to believe that he was a son of god and they start to attend the church in meadow lance. The second branch to be formed was zuurbekom branch; it’s between westdene and protea glen. It was formed because meadow lance branch was too small to accommodate all the people from different places who were coming there, zuurbekom is bigger than meadow lance. The church have a lot of members that no one cannot count and it was said that the church have more than 500 branches nationwide. The head of the church is rev M.G MODISE , the son of the late F.S MODISE.

I.P.H.C 'S VIEW ON SOCIETAL ISSUES
1.Reineth ngwenya- adult(zuurbekom) 2. Selby Mkansi- the chairperson of IPHC in Zuurbekom branch 3. Bonolo Ramela- youth( zuurbekom) I first conducted interview with the the chairperson selby kmansi on his view of death penalty, he told me that death penalty is not a good system and it must be abolished in the world. He said that death penalty is against the word god that said no one shall kill. He said he doesn’t see any reason that death penalty can come back to south-Africa because the South African justice is reasonable. He continued saying that people who still believe in death penalty and want it to back to south Africa need a strong prayer, he said that people who run death penalty they are against god. Reineth ngenya also said she is against death penalty because is not a good punishment, she told me that it doesn’t solve anything that people who killed must be killed and she stressed that it was against the word of god, she concluded by saying that she doesn’t encourage people to bring death penalty in south Africa. The last person to ask was bonolo ramelo ,a youth, she said death penalty is not good more specially to the family that is the victims, she also stressed what reineth said that it doesn’t help to kill people who kill because at the end of the day there will be no one left. the second topic to look at was teenage pregnancies, selby said that teenage pregnancy is a bad habit and lot of children are victims. He also said that his daughter is one of those victims, “ she fell pregnant at the age of 13 and I’m so disappointed about that” said selby. they cause of this is the lack of talk between the parents and their children, I blame the mothers because they are the one who is responsible fort this. Reineth said lot of children become pregnant at the young, she said that children ignore to go to the clinics and take pills. Bonolo said that she is one of the victims and this resulted to abortion. She said that her mother did talk to her about sex but didn’t tell her to go to the clinic to take pills that is why this happened to her The last topic to look at was racism. Selby said that he hate racist people if ever it happened that he caught anyone doing racism, he will pray for them,” people who come with racism is white people” he said, I’m not going to tolerate that behaviour happened to the church because that bible said we are all equal. Reineth said she cannot say white people came with racism because even black people are racist as well, he said south Africa must be a free country. Bonolo said racism is a leading system more especially in schools where black people doesn’t mix with blacks, she said that children must be thought that racism is not good end is ageist the word of god.
